Harry Brearley Centenary Conference and Exhibition

To commemorate the centenary of the discovery of stainless steel in Sheffield in 1913, a number of events are being organised in Sheffield for 2013. A centre piece will be the conference, exhibition and works visits organised by BSSA, SMEA and National Metals Technology Centre. The Harry Brearley Centenary Conference and Exhibition will be held over 2 days at The Edge, Endcliffe Village, The University of Sheffield on 11th and 12th June 2013. The conference title is planned to be ‘The Development and Application of Stainless Steels’.  It will be an International Conference whose format will be designed on that successfully used for the annual conferences held by the BSSA and SMEA. There will be invited expert lecturers from a wide range of companies, research institutes and universities from around the world. Because of the anticipated popularity of the topic over 200 delegates are expected to attend.

In addition the SMEA Celebrity Lecture will be held on the evening of the 11th June and a Centenary Dinner at the Cutlers’ Hall on the 12th June. Works visits are planned on the 13th June either to Outokumpu Stainless, Sheffield Forgemasters or Tata Steel.
