UK-India partnership to advance circular material use
The UK Government, the Royal Academy of Engineering and Tata Steel form the three-year partnership.
The collaboration will bring together industry and academia in both countries, with the aim of increasing the use of sustainable and recycled materials in construction and manufacturing.
The Royal Academy of Engineering will deliver UK-India policy missions to catalyse collaboration on recycling and replacement of critical minerals.
Tata Steel will offer industrial insight and expertise, through mentorship and access to facilities. The company will also provide up to £1mln in matched funding alongside UK Government investment.
The partnership is expected to support up to 15 research and innovation grants between £100,000-£150,000. Each of the projects will be co-led by a UK and Indian partner and provide a pathway towards industrial, entrepreneurial or wider practical impact.
Delivered through the Academy’s ‘Transforming Systems through Partnership’ programme, it will support grant holders in both countries from April 2027.
