Trelleborg AVS, a global leader in anti‑vibration solutions, presents how vibration challenges are evolving across the transport sector. Using rail applications as an example, the talk introduces ConeX3 as a smart solution enabling condition monitoring and predictive maintenance of elastomer systems.

Mark Wilkinson: Elastomers in Modern Mobility: Applications in BEVs and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles

Summary: This presentation explores elastomer hose solutions for hydrogen fuel cell systems and thermally conductive silicone materials enabling effective thermal management, safety, and durability in battery electric vehicles.

Thao Pham: Tyre Wear Challenges in Electric Vehicles

The electrification of the transport industry introduces new challenges for tyre performance. Tyres designed for electrical vehicles (EVs) must meet higher demands due to increased vehicle weight from the batteries and the ability of EVs to deliver torque instantaneously. These factors result in greater stresses at the tyre road interface, leading to accelerated tread wear. To maximise vehicle range, EV tyres are optimized for lower rolling resistance, which, however conflicts with the requirement for high wet grip performance. This work explores how to develop an optimal balance between tyre longevity, fuel efficiency and enhanced safety.

Haleemah Abdulraheem: Marine Infrastructure for Future Fuel and Energy Transportation – Liquified Ammonia

The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has set new regulations to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions from international shipping and to phase them out promptly. Liquified ammonia has been highlighted as a key tool in decarbonisation, both as a marine fuel and a hydrogen carrier. However, the current marine infrastructure is based on the requirements of crude oil transportation; therefore, new or retrofit marine infrastructure is required to meet the sustainable energy demands. This talk presents the first ever qualified bonded marine hose for liquified ammonia, applicable for bunkering ammonia as a marine fuel and for transporting ammonia as a hydrogen carrier, and a key tool to support new infrastructure for the future fuel and energy transportation requirements
