Professional Member (MIMMM)

The Professional Member grade MIMMM is recognition from the Institute of an individual's professional experience, knowledge and understanding in a technical discipline associated with the Institute.

Professional Members are usually expected to exercise independent technical judgement in both practical experience and the application of engineering or scientific or environmental principles. They will be innovative in technical matters relating to materials and natural resources in one or more of the following: exploration, extraction, processing, forming, selection, application, development, research, manufacturing, reuse, repurposing and recycling.

Suitable applicants for this grade:

  • hold the minimum of a RQF Level 6/SCQF Level 9/10 qualification such as a Bachelor’s degree, BEng, BSc, BSc(Eng), BTech etc. or equivalent in a relevant engineering, science, technology or environmental subject
  • have at least 4 years relevant working experience. This can include time spent completing a PhD

If you are already a member:

  • a copy of your CV/resume.
  • a copy of your degree/qualification(s) certificates, unless these have previously been submitted to the Institute.

If you are not already a member you will also have to submit a completed Professional Membership form.

Application for Competent Person Registration

Those seeking to apply for professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Charterted Environmentalist (CEnv) or Chartered Scientist (CSci), must hold the membership grade of MIMMM or FIMMM at the time of application, in addition to the minimum of a RQF Level 7/SCQF Level 11 qualification such as a Masters' degree.

Minerals Reporting

Those who wish to be recognised by the Institute for the purposes of Minerals Reporting should contact the Membership Department for futher details. The process for recognition will require an interview.
