LECTURE: Engineering the hip joint – the Exeter Total Hip Replacement:
A joint replacement, a hip, knee, shoulder, elbow and so-on, is something that many of us and/or our nearest and dearest may come to experience. Engineering of these devices provides a great story, the UK can be very proud of pioneering engineers and surgeons who established the technology and still lead the field. Adam Feldman will discuss some of this story, and especially how the South West has played such a major role. The Exeter Hip is the most used and the most reliable cemented hip joint replacement in the World; over 2 million have now been implanted.
