Dr Kyle Marshall CEng MIMMM
After graduating from the University of Sheffield in 2014 having studied Mechanical Engineering, Kyle undertook an EngD researched programme co-sponsored by Rolls-Royce PLC and Carpenter Technology. The subject of his research was the link between microstructure and machinability in modern nickel superalloys.
He joined Rolls-Royce PLC in 2018 as a Materials Engineer in the civil aerospace sector working predominantly on Titanium and Nickel critical rotating disc components. He recently became a chartered engineering with IOM3 in 2021.
Dr Tannaz Pak CEng MIMMM FHEI
Tannaz is a senior lecturer in Energy and Environmental engineering at Teesside University. She holds the Chartered Engineer status and is a professional member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (CEng MIMMM). Tannaz's research is mainly focused on porous materials in different applications including environmental remediation, water purification, and energy storage.
In 2021, Tannaz was selected as one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering by the Women's Engineering Society in the UK.
Prior to starting her academic career, Tannaz did a PhD in Geosciences at the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with Heriot-Watt University. She has done her MSc. in Reservoir Geoscience and Engineering at the IFP School in France and her BSc in Engineering in Iran.
Sarah Boad CEng CSci FIMMM
Sarah Boad has a degree in Metallurgy from University College of Swansea. She started her working like at Morganite Electrical Carbon Ltd in Morriston, Swansea working on carbon brushes for electrical machines. She then moved to Dunlop Aviation in Coventry where her focus was on carbon-carbon composites for aircraft breaks.
Sarah started working with the Institute in the early 90’s and has done various roles - Regional Consultant for the Midlands Region, and in 2004 she took on the new role of ‘National Co-ordinator – Regions’ liaising with all the local societies across the UK and Ireland. In the autumn of 2010, she became Membership Development Manager, working with Universities, Companies and individuals, promoting professional membership of IOM3 and other professional bodies.
She was a founder member of the WIM3 committee and acted as secretary until she retired from the group in 2019.
Sarah is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Scientist and Fellow of IOM3.
Tomasz Zalewski TIMMM
Tom is currently a Failure Investigator working in the Materials Department of Rolls-Royce. The role requires him to perform investigative analysis techniques on component and assembly failures to determine their root cause. He started this role following completion of the Rolls-Royce Specialist Science Apprenticeship programme which he undertook alongside a part-time foundation degree, followed by a Bachelor's top-up degree, in Materials Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University, graduating with First Class Honours.
For his accomplishments on the foundation degree, Tom was awarded the IOM3 2017 Technician of the Year Award. For accomplishments on the Bachelor's degree and for his work conducted at Rolls-Royce whilst a TIMMM, he was awarded the IOM3 Royal Charter Prize and the Technician Medal respectively in 2019, alongside several accolades awarded by Sheffield Hallam University upon graduation.
Tom is also a proud committee member of the East Midlands Materials Society (EMMS) and holds a position on the IOM3 Advisory Council representing Technician members. He enjoys learning about all fields of materials engineering and science, but is especially interested in light alloy fatigue failure mechanisms.
Tom's hobbies include swimming, photography and spending time outdoors whilst walking the dog.
