New register for carbon accounting skills
The Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP) has opened applications for two new professional registration levels.
Its Register of Carbon Accountants and Auditors (RCAA) introduces different levels of professional registration to help organisations assess the expertise behind their emissions data.
The register was set up in response to rapid growth in carbon accounting, where methods and levels of expertise can often vary. The aim is to give businesses, regulators and reporting schemes a clearer way to understand and evaluate the qualifications and experience of people carrying out emissions calculations.
Technical Associate covers foundational carbon accounting knowledge, while Registered Practitioner and Principal Carbon Accountant recognise increasing levels of technical expertise, experience and responsibility.
A separate Registered Carbon Accounting Auditor grade is also planned.
ISEP says the register should make it easier for organisations to identify qualified practitioners and have greater confidence in the emissions data used to guide reporting and decarbonisation decisions.
