The industrial technology company Tracerco welcomed a group of young women from a local specialist STEM college to encourage the next generation into engineering.

The 15-strong group of 15-17 year olds from UTC South Durham visited the company's base in Billingham, Teeside.

The learning opportunity was arranged with the Advanced Manufacturing Forum to showcase the range of interesting opportunities available for women in the industry.

Tracerco Managing Director Jon Tate says, 'We want to show that there are so many opportunities for women at every level in engineering and it’s not just a career that is often associated with wearing a hard hat and coveralls.

'Research has shown that girls this age who have expressed an interest in pursuing a career in STEM often leave the industry before receiving their qualifications.'
