Grant application open for advanced healthcare materials
Eligible projects will explore the complex linkages between materials, biological systems and clinical environments.
The Henry Royce Institute has opened the third round of its MATcelerate HEALTH funding for research, development and innovation sprint projects.
The institute seeks to bridge the gap between academic innovation and market-ready solutions, and specifies projects must be materials-led, with a clear materials innovation at their core.
Providing £50,000 to £85,000, the grant aims to support integration challenges across academic research and industrial development; scaleability, manufacturing and regulatory hurdles; and early engagement with end-users, clinicians and industry partners.
It will help short sprint project de-risk the critical aspects of commercialising materials-based health technologies and turn high-impact technologies into investable solutions.
This will be achieved through close collaboration with leading UK universities and several of the country’s largest NHS Trusts.
The institute also hopes to improve patient outcomes through advanced, smart medical devices, while addressing the environmental impact of medical waste, reducing healthcare costs and maximising delivery efficiency.
Applications can be submitted on the Henry Royce website until 17 November 2026, and are restricted to researchers from MATcelerate HEALTH partner universities, working with their Technology Transfer Offices.
