Going Green: Driving Sustainability through the Steel Product Lifecycle

Add to cal

Online via Teams

This year’s SWMA Vivian Lecture by Dr Laura Baker from Tata Steel.

About the Speaker:

Dr Laura Baker studied Materials Science and Engineering at Swansea University. She has worked in the South Wales steel industry for over 20 years and is currently Head of Product Management & Development at Tata Steel Strip Products, based in Port Talbot. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and currently holds the position of Vice-Chair of the Iron & Steel Division within that Institute.

Abstract:

Sustainability is one of the most important words in our current vocabulary. We all know how important it is that we live more sustainable lives in order to minimise the damage to our planet. Decarbonisation and sustainability is a key priority of the steel industry and we often hear about the latest technology to reduce carbon emissions in steel making and processing. But what about the product being made by these technologies? Little is reported about the development to making the steel product we come into contact with every day, greener and more sustainable.

Dr Laura Baker, Head of Product Management and Development for Tata Steel UK aims to address this gap by talking about innovations in product development and design and how data can reduce waste in the supply chain.
