CWMS Career Event - still time to register!

CWMS is pleased to announce a Careers Event to take place at Coventry University on Wednesday March 1st. Location: ECG-26 at the Frank Whittle Engineering & Computing Building of Coventry University at 3 Gulson Rd, Coventry CV1 2JH. goo.gl/maps/wuGvRgmTCWRsKBoZ7). Car parking is available at several city centre car parks. The Event is designed to be an opportunity for early career researchers and industrial practitioners to hear from and interact with more experienced professionals. Refreshments (free pizza!) will be available from 18:00 with the event starting at 18:30 and estimated to close around 20:00. For those unable to attend in person, participation by Zoom will also be possible. Please register for the event at the following site: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/518933964457 The event will be led by: Dr. Sam McMaster: Materials Scientist at Pillarhouse International Ltd (World Leaders in Selective Soldering) and KTP Associate at Coventry University, Sam is also the Event Manager for Surface Ventures, a non-profit online platform providing world-class surface engineering webinars for academics and industry professionals, founded in 2020. Sam will share his experience in both academia and industry and provide valuable career advice to young researchers and students. Dr Tara Schiller: after starting her academic career in Australia, Tara joined Warwick Manufacturing Group in 2014 and established an active interdisciplinary research group. Tara actively engages with non-academic partners including Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, Tata UK, Infineum, GTechniq. International collaborations and engagement are pivotal to the group's outcome and Tara has been recognised for her exemplar collaboration through her recent award for partnership work with Tata UK. Tara was the inaugural chair of CWMS and she is now a Fellow of IOM3. She is also Treasurer for the RSC MacroGroupUK. She will provide a perspective on building networks across academia and industry in support of your career. Ben Dempster: after studying Metallurgy and Materials Science in his Natural Sciences degree at Cambridge University, Ben entered the Intellectual Property profession and has over 30 years experience. He is a European and Chartered Patent Attorney as well as being a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney and is currently a Partner at Hayemans. For those engaged in academic or industrial research, Ben will be providing advice on the following questions: • How do I protect my invention? - should I keep it secret/patent it/disclose it? • What makes an idea or invention patentable? • Which countries or regions should I cover? • What does it cost? • Who should I approach for help? Sarah Boad: Sarah is Membership Development Manager at IOM3. She will describe the benefits of IOM3 membership and routes to professional recognition and registration by the Engineering and Science Councils and the Society for the Environment (CEng, CSci and CEnv).
