Student design competition - advances in protective clothing

The remit of this design competition is for students (either undergraduate or
postgraduate) to produce a poster for display at the Advances in Protective Clothing
 held on 25 April 2012 at QinetiQ, Farnborough, UK.

All entrants must
attend the conference (paying the applicable student delegate fee) and produce and
display their own posters.

The entries will be judged by delegates at the conference and the winner of the
competition announced at the end of the conference.


The competition will be judged by the conference delegates on the day and the prizes are:

  • 1st Place - £300
  • 2nd Place - £150
  • 3rd Place - £50


The Brief 

The brief is to generate a design that shows how the use of advanced materials could
lead to the next generation of multi-functional clothing that is better equipped to protect
and preserve human life. The design should take into account:

  • multi-functionality and systems integration
  • materials properties
  • wearer comfort
  • body
  • life preservation 


The target market can include all markets where protective clothing is used, for

  • armed forces
  • security services
  • emergency responders
  • construction
  • sports
  • agriculture 
  • etc


Entry Procedure

To enter the competition please register for the event via the conference website. During the registration process you will have the option to enter the competition and submit a title and short abstract for your design.

Please note that to enter the competition you must register for the event and pay the appropriate delegate fee. You must also produce your own poster and bring this with you on the day for display. 

The deadline for entry is 18 April 2012

Poster Guidelines

The posters must be produced in portrait format and be no larger than 881mm high by 575mm wide in size. They can be attached to the poster boards using hook and loop tape which will be supplied by the conference organisers.
