Our next course will take place virtually on 11 September.

We are delighted to be working with award-winning science communicator and author Dr Anna Ploszajski to offer this short course exploring the importance of storytelling in technical communications.

The half-day course will give you the tools, skills and knowledge needed to apply storytelling techniques to communiting technical work in written and verbal forms.  This course is primarily aimed at student and early career researchers in academia and industry but is also relevant to anyone that has to communicate information to others, such as those working in other professional services, support, communications and media relations.

Completing the course you will be able to:

  • Identify the elements of storytelling (the Story Toolbox) in your work, including narrative, tension, world, characters, stakes, journey, inciting incident, conflict, final test and resolutions.
  • Plot out the shape of their story.
  • Turn any future communication into a short, three part story.
  • Apply this Storytelling Toolbox to future communications.
