The IOM3 Certificate in Management has been purposefully themed and structured to meet the management training needs of the member in or about to take up their first management/supervisory position, with the flexibility to study through a one-day short course format.
Five one-day short courses will be hosted during the course of a year. The Certificate in Management will be awarded on successful completion of all five courses. Alternatively the courses can be studied as one-offs or in smaller combinations.
The full IOM3 Certificate in Management course is comprised of five one-day courses which explore a number of aspects that are important for the aspiring manager to understand.
1. Leadership and Management
This workshop is designed to develop practical skills in managing staff beyond the basics. It creates an understanding of delegation, communication and assertiveness as a basis for lessons on giving feedback and performance counselling. There is also treatment, via short case studies, of a number of common difficult scenarios, and the day ends with an extremely useful session which deals with development of the delegates' general management skills.
2. Foundations of Performance Management
This workshop is designed to develop practical skills in managing others. It deals with leadership and management styles, managing performance through motivation, coaching and setting SMART objectives.
3. Understanding Finance and Risk Management
For today's managers it is essential to have a working knowledge of finance and if you do not have any training or background in finance, you may be at a disadvantage. Understanding the financial cycle will help you see where you fit in your company's financial structure and the financial role of your department. Whether you work in sales, admin, or production you have an influence on your company's finance. You can, for instance, increase sales, increase information flow or prevent wastage. A key part of financial health is to plan for contingencies and manage risks. This course will help you to understand the key concepts of finance and accounting, help you prepare your budgets, and deal with risk management with more confidence.
4. Project Management
This intensive session teaches delegates basic project management techniques, and is intended to familiarise them with common terms and tools so that they can manage projects more effectively. It explores the definition of projects and project management, the life cycle of a project, project goals, the use of a target chart, preparing a project and breaking down the work structure, scheduling and planning, carrying out and closing the project, and risks.
This workshop is designed to enhance delegates' understanding of change, to make them better equipped to analyse the factors at play in their own particular circumstances, and to adopt practical strategies to deal with resistance. It explores the definition of change, the change cycle, and responses to change such as anger, resistance and stress and how to manage them.
