IOM3(HK) October Technical Visit to Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai

IOM3 Hong Kong Branch’s technical visit to Contract No. CV/2012/09 Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point Site Formation and Infrastructure Works – Contract 3 was held on 7 October 2017 and 16 participants attended the visit. 

Contract No. CV/2012/09 comprises the construction of an interchange with four viaducts near Kiu Tau, Fanling for the connecting road to the Boundary Control Point, widening of a section of the Fanling Highway of about 1 km long near the interchange, demolition of the existing Kiu Tau Vehicular Bridge, re-provisioning of the existing Kiu Tau Footbridge, realignment of the existing Tai Wo Service Road West and Tai Wo Service Road East, and associated slope, drainage, sewerage, water, and landscape works. Contract No. CV/2012/09 commenced on 31 July 2013 for completion in mid 2018. 

The technical visit was divided into two parts. The first part was the technical presentation given by by the RSS team of Contract No. CV/2012/09, which covered the scope of works under the project and the construction methods adopted for the viaduct construction across Fanling Highway and MTRCL East Rail. The RSS team highlighted that a movable lifting frame, which can lift up viaducts segment and travel along erected span for segment erection, was tailored made for the construction of viaduct spans across MTRCL East Rail using the balanced cantilever method. After the technical presentation, the RSS team led the partcipants to see the construction works on site and further explained the operation of the foregoing tailored-made movable lifting frame.
