Aqueduct – The Well Water Ltd, in partnership with DS Smith, have produced a new bag-in-box solution to replace water cooler bottless.

The new packaging is offered instead of plastic returnable bottles,  it is said to yield a 60% reduction in truck movement and associated emissions.

Having purchased a natural mineral water plant in Scotland in 2018 Well Water closed the bottle line within a year. They then partnered with DS Smith who help producers remove plastics so packaging fits into the circular economy.

Well Water has invested in DS Smith’s OTOR packing machinery to eliminate unnecessary material – as it uses virgin board grade it can support the fibre re-use.

The new bag-in-boxes come in 6L, 10L and 12.75L. As well as the environmental benefits, the bag is taint free, meaning that it does not change the water’s taste, and , according to the company, more hygienic than plastic, as each bag having its own freshwater tap. The boxes are easier to store, lighter and easier to lift.
