The laboratories based in Warrington, UK, will be home to CRADLE. Research will focus on novel tech for the space, nuclear decommissioning, energy generation and urban infrastructure sectors.

Jacobs will contribute £4.6mln of the total £11mln, and will have the opportunity to commercialise technologies developed at CRADLE. The funding will help support 12 University of Manchester PhD students conduct research and perform prototype demonstrations.

‘CRADLE will allow the university’s recently established Manchester Centre for Robotics and AI to build a relationship with [Jacobs] in applied robotics, helping us to progress our fundamental research in this area and to deliver impact from the robotic and AI systems that we are developing,’ says Centre Co-director Professor Barry Lennox.
