Science Council Registration Authority looking for Volunteers

Volunteering opportunities avalibale for CSci members at the Science Council to help with its plans across 2021 and beyond.

The Science Council Registration Authority is looking to fill 4 positions this year with individuals. The RA plays an important role setting and maintaining the quality assurance mechanisms and standards that Licensed Bodies must adhere to obtain and maintain their licenses. Applicants are likely to have a background in setting professional standards and/or quality assurance. At least half of the RA’s members will hold Science Council professional registration, therefore holding Chartered Scientist status will be advantageous. Previous committee experience is also desirable but not essential as support and development opportunities will be available. Knowledge and experience of the charitable/not-for-profit sector would be an advantage but is not essential.

The RA is particularly keen to receive applications from people with skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Reviewing applications for licenses
  • Conducting licence reviews
  • Evaluating reports from Science Council license review visits
  • Complaints and disciplinary procedures

If you do not have these experiences of skills but you believe that your background and expertise could be useful to us and you are interested in joining the RA, we still want to hear from you. These positions could therefore suit individuals taking their first steps to develop wider committee and governance experience.

Key dates

Applications will be accepted until Monday 15 March at 17:00 GMT. Following this date, candidates will be shortlisted and those who make the shortlist will be invited to discuss the role with the Chair of the RA. The RA will consider the shortlisted candidates at its meeting on Tuesday 30 March and will recommend candidates to the Science Council's Board of Trustees. The Board will appoint new members on Wednesday 12 May and candidates will be informed on Thursday 13 May. Following appointment, the successful candidates will undergo induction prior to their first meeting. The first RA meeting for newly appointed members will be on Tuesday 29 June.
