SAIMM gifts Mark Cutifani 2022 Brigadier Stokes award

Mark Cutifani FREng CEng FIMMM has been awarded the 2022 Brigadier Stokes Memorial Award by the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM).

 

Mining veteran, Mark Cutifani received the platinum medal during the online Annual General Meeting of SAIMM on 11 August 2022. The award was presented to Cutifani for his substantial contribution to the South African minerals industry.

On accepting the award, Cutifani said he felt honoured. ‘I need to acknowledge the members of the SAIMM – to be honoured by the members is the ultimate recognition for someone that has chosen a career in mining. And while we touch all aspects of society and community endeavour, recognition from one’s industry peers is something to be cherished’

The Brigadier Stokes Memorial Award was instituted in 1980 in commemoration of the outstanding contribution that Brigadier RSG Stokes made to the South African mining and metallurgical industries over many years.

Previous award holders include Harry Oppenheimer, African Rainbow Minerals founder and chairperson Patrice Motsepe, former AngloGold Ashanti CEO Bobby Godsell, former Exxaro Resources CEO Sipho Nkosi and Minerals Council South Africa CEO Roger Baxter.
