New rules announced for e-waste shipments
Parties at Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions agree new approach to waste stream.
Electronic and electric waste will now be subject to prior informed consent before it is shipped.
It means that all electronic and electric waste shipments must now have the destinations countries' consent to import, now ratified under the Basel Convention.
The announcement was made at The Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions currently taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Basel Convention is an international treaty designed to reduce movement of hazardous waste between nations.
