IOM3 shortlisted for two Professional Publishers Association Awards

Materials World has been shortlisted for the Professional Publishers Association (PPA) 2022 Sustainability Award and staff writer Andrea Gaini for 2022 Newcomer of the Year.

This year’s PPA Sustainability Award looks to recognise and reward a change, campaign, project or event that has enhanced its social and environmental credentials in 2021. To improve our environmental credentials, IOM3 members in the UK now receive most of their printed copies of Materials World ‘naked’ without a wrapper, with select editions wrapped in paper to accommodate planned inserts. The initiative rolled out in July 2021 has saved around 285kg so far in single-use polywrap in the six months to January 2022.

The PPA Newcomer of the Year Award recognises those who have made outstanding contributions to the role or industry and exceptional progress in both their skills development. Andrea Gaini joined our Magazines Team in January 2021 in his first employed journalistic role and was put forward for his work on the Institute's member magazine Materials World.

Andrea's articles in his first year have covered the breadth of technical disciplines represented by the Institute, as well as pieces focused on soft skills and professional development alongside diversity and inclusion in science and engineering.

Now in their 42nd year, the PPA Awards return in 2022 to further their mission to recognise, celebrate and elevate the achievements made across the UK publishing and media industry. The ceremony is planned to take place at The Grosvenor House Hotel on 22 June 2022.
