IOM3 members recognised in Women’s Engineering Society’s Top 50 Women in Engineering: Sustainability

Today, on International Women in Engineering Day, IOM3 members Professor Rachel Oliver FIMMM and Dr Mi Tian MIMMM have been recognised in the Women’s Engineering Society’s (WES) Top 50 Women in Engineering: Sustainability. Rachel and Mi Tian will be presented with their awards virtually later this year.

Rachel is Professor of Materials Science at the University of Cambridge, working on characterisation techniques for gallium nitride materials for light-emitting diodes and laser diodes. Mi Tian is a Lecturer in Low Carbon Engineering at the University of Exeter.

The judges stated that the standard of the nominations was extremely high and highlighted the exceptional attainments made by women in sustainability. This is testament to the difference that female engineers are making in shaping the world. 

Sally Sudworth, the Environment Agency’s National Programme Manager for Asset Management & FCRM Sustainability Lead (Net Zero Carbon Programme), WES Honorary Secretary and WE50 Head Judge said, ‘The panel of judges was thrilled by with the outstanding achievements demonstrated by all of the winners and were pleased by the difference being made by the candidates.’

Congratulations to Rachel and Mi Tian on such a fantastic achievement.
