IOM3 announces refreshed mission and vision

Our new mission and vision, shaping the future of materials, minerals and mining.

IOM3 announces refreshed mission and vision and this moving asset (GIF) explains the new statements

Over the past year, a working group has led the review and update of the Institute’s mission and vision statements. The aim was to create clearer, more outward-looking statements that better reflect who we are today and where we want to go. Inclusivity, sustainability, innovation and collaboration have been key themes throughout.

The group identified the need for statements that are simpler, clearer and more aligned with our values and ambitions in a changing world. They gathered feedback and ensured the new statements align with the Institute’s values and strategy.

The refreshed vision reads:

Advancing materials, minerals and mining through innovation and excellence for an inclusive and sustainable future.

The updated mission states:

As the leading professional body representing the global materials, minerals and mining community, we champion excellence and innovation to drive responsible and efficient use of the planet’s resources. Acting as an inclusive and collaborative network, we advance science, engineering and technology across the entire materials cycle. In doing so, we promote sustainable solutions that create real value for our members, educators, researchers, producers, users and society at large.

IOM3 CEO, Dr Colin Church CEnv FIMMM, says:

‘Our refreshed mission and vision reflect who we are today and the role we play in shaping the future of materials, minerals and mining. They underline our commitment to inclusivity, sustainability and innovation, values central to our work and the communities we serve. We look forward to supporting and connecting our global membership as we advance the entire materials cycle.’

The new mission and vision were approved by the Executive Board in January 2026. We would like to thank the working group volunteers for their time and effort throughout this process.
