Royce is inviting organisations to drive the development of this strategy, which will be built on the framework they developed in Stage 1, be underpinned by a broad consultation, and supported by the government - including the Department for Science Innovation and Technology.

A Materials Futures Summary and a National Materials Innovation Strategy Framework were developed in Stage 1, which was completed in the first quarter of 2023.

The commissioned organisation will be required to develop a Materials Innovation Strategy over 12 months and coordinate any associated activities over 18 months.

They will also be expected to develop both a report and background database to support the business case for their recommendations - that activity has a four-month timeline from the start.

The closing date for tenders is the end of June 2023, with contractors appointed in July and planning beginning in early August of this year.

Operating with its Hub at The University of Manchester, Royce is a Partnership of nine leading institutions – the universities of Cambridge, Imperial College London, Liverpool, Leeds, Oxford, Sheffield, the National Nuclear Laboratory, and UKAEA. Royce’s associate partners are the universities of Cranfield and Strathclyde.
