GRI sector standard for mining open for public comment
The exposure draft of GRI Sector Standard for Mining has been approved by the Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB) and is open for public comment until 30 April.

Mining makes a valuable contribution to economies and outputs can be essential to the green transition. However, mining also has a high environmental and social impact, often concentrated in and around extraction sites.
It is proposed that the Sector Standard for Mining will apply to organisations whose primary focus lies on:
- Exploration and extraction, including quarrying, and primary processing of all types of minerals, metallic and non-metallic, except for oil, gas, and coal.
- Support activities for mining, such as transport and storage.
- Supply of specialised products and services to mining organizations, such as engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors.
The main objective of the public comment period is to test for clarity, feasibility, completeness, and relevance. There is also a need to ensure that the topics identified accurately reflect impacts on the economy, environment, and people; and that the list of disclosures included for each topic is relevant.
