The site is the UK’s only aluminium smelter and is powered by GFG Alliance’s hydro-electric station located on the slopes of Ben Nevis.

The Scottish Government is monitoring the situation, Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Fair Work and Culture, said, ‘The current plans are not to take over the Lochaber aluminium smelter and the Dalzell steelworks – both of which are owned by the GFG Alliance….{however] Ministers would look at all options as required.’

The aluminium group is headquartered in Paris, France, and covers all of GFG Alliance’s assets across the aluminium supply chain.

Sister plant ALVANCE Aluminium Duffel BV, Belgium, recently began delivering coils certified under the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Chain of Custody standard to the Audi plant in Neckarsulm, Germany. The ASI-badged coils will be used in the production of various models, starting with the Audi A6.
