Forging stronger UK foundation industry links
New projects plan to transform the sustainability of supply chains for domestic companies.

UK Research and Innovation are funding eight new projects to increase the sustainability of UK foundation industry companies and their respective supply chains.
The projects have secured a total £24mln for industrially scaled demonstrator projects through the Transforming Foundation Industries challenege.
Run by Innovate UK, the competition from January to March of this year, applicants needed to show cross-sector and collaborative elements, with major industry invesment and opportunities.
Successful projects include European Metal Recycling Ltds' RECTIFI, which will demonstrate materials handling and seperation techniques to increase scrap quality for a more circular steel industry.
Another winner was Carbon Upcycling Technologies UK, a Canadian startup which will demonstrate conversion of local low-grade contaminated glass cullet into high-performance feedstocks for the cement industry.
