Mechanical Testing and Analysis Engineer, Salary ranges from £33,446 - £71,818 dependent on experience
Our Assessment Technology Group, which is part of the EDF Energy's (Nuclear Generation) Central Technical Organisation, is responsible for developing methods to assess margins against failure of metallic structures by collapse, creep, fatigue and fracture. The group is also responsible for deriving material properties, associated laws and to gain a good understanding of the response of materials to loads, temperatures and processes such as welding. To support this, we have our own mechanical testing laboratory and we are currently seeking a materials/mechanical engineer with experience of mechanical testing to work within the facility.
The role will encompass setting up and managing physical testing work for a variety of different test types (tensile, fatigue, fracture, steady and cyclic creep). This will include interaction and management of external contractors, test machine manufactures to ensure that the business goals are met. Some of these tests are non-standard and will require an aptitude for test method development. Familiarity with different testing standards would be advantageous (e.g. BS, ASTM, ESIS, ISO).
Further, the role will include analysis of the test results to assist our engineers to address real and challenging plant issues, which is the major role of the Group’s responsibility. Interaction and managing work with other testing facilities will be expected for testing that is carried out on behalf of EDF Energy. With a good performance, this role may lead to a longer term opportunity for day to day management of the test facility.
