Hawkins is seeking talented Materials Scientists and Engineers to join our established Materials team to provide specialist forensic investigation and root cause analysis for all aspects of materials failure. This is an exciting opportunity to join an entirely employee owned business where you can have a stake in the future of the Company, with all employees benefiting from our successes.
At Hawkins, no two days are the same. The job responsibilities are hugely varied, from evidence gathering at a scene to presenting findings in a Court. The role requires methodical examination and high attention to detail. Forensic work is not for the fainthearted; there are practical, technical and human elements to the role of an investigator, each of which brings its own unique challenges. However, if you thrive in an environment of technical rigor and have a burning desire to answer the question of 'Why?' then this could be a role for you.
Key responsibilities:
- Carry out thorough site-based investigations, gathering and accurately recording the available evidence.
- Devise and carry out testing of components and materials.
- Review of technical documentation and standards.
- Produce reports to clients promptly.
- Be prepared to argue a case with other experts and lawyers.
- Prepare reports for Court proceedings.
- Attend client meetings.
- Provide expert witness evidence in Court. Key Skills and attributes:
- A first class, or upper second-class Materials Science or Engineering Master's degree from a well-respected university. Second degrees, such as EngD and PhD will be looked on favourably.
- Chartered or Professional Engineer status, or the current aim to become Chartered in your discipline.
- A proven communicator in both written and verbal presentation.
- An ability to manage projects to meet required deliverables on time, in budget and to plan.
- An excellent mindset for customer service and relationship building.
We are interested to hear from those with commercial and industrial experience, as well as more recently qualified post-graduates who are looking to start their career, with our development and training programmes adaptable to the level of experience an individual brings.
