Fred Traice, former President of the Cleveland Institution of Engineers, passed away on 11 October 2013 in Harrogate. He worked at British Steel for many years, was heavily involved in the design of Redcar Blast Furnace and was an active member and eventually Chairman of the European Ironmaking Research Committee.
Peter Welford, who has died aged 98, studied at Cambridge with Alan Turing, worked in a lab with Margaret Thatcher and was employed on a number of projects throughout his career including improving weather resistance of the material used to coat steel and aluminium sheet for external cladding of buildings.
