A history of the Newport and Cardiff Materials Society
The present-day Newport & Cardiff Materials Society has a rich history since it was first formed as Newport & District Metallurgical Society in 1934. The talk will recount the history as it has unfolded with its evolution from a heavily steel oriented society to one that is involved in all types of materials. There have been many ups and downs over the years, and its very survival has been threatened at times, but it is still very much alive. We will take a look at some of the influential and colourful characters who have been involved and how they have helped to shape the Society as it evolved.
The speakers have chronicled the history of the first ninety years of the Society in a book, and it will be available for purchase after the talk.
