CWMS is pleased to announce a lecture by Rory Rose of Alloyed Ltd (formerly OxMet Technologies), a company that delivers next generation performance for metal components through a unique stack of technologies (alloyed.com/).
Rory studied materials science at Oxford before joining Alloyed where he focuses on developing computational tools for designing green alloys and combining metallurgy insights and data driven modelling to predict material properties.
Abstract: As manufacturing companies struggle to hit climate change targets, materials design shows a promising route for reducing process emissions. The uptake of high secondary fraction aluminium alloys has been difficult to achieve in property critical industries due to degradation of performance from compositional variation and build-up of harmful elements. To address these challenges, the classical approach of experience-based alloy design is no longer fit for purpose. However, a combination of high throughput computation and physical modelling - ‘Alloys-by-design’ - shows promise of solving these problems. Rory will show how Alloyed have developed a platform for designing green alloys and show recent applications to design of aluminium alloys for reduced process emissions in the automotive sector.
