Introducing Vector, the Future of Extensometry has arrived

10.00am - 11.00am EST
3.00pm - 4.00pm BST 25 July 2022

Tinius Olsen introduces Vector, a step change in extensometer technology capable of replacing multiple contacting and non-contacting sensors with a single, industry specific instrument.

Vector eliminates the challenges of traditional contacting and non-contacting extensometers by utilising intelligent non-contact, high-accuracy measurement techniques - plug in, power up and go!

This revolutionary technology will see a real step change in the world of materials testing through:

  • Increase testing efficiency by reducing the need for operator intervention
  • Measure strain through failure, however violent
  • Measure simultaneously longitudinally and transverse
  • Test in harsh environments or challenging light conditions
  • Test highly fragile specimens
  • Avoid introducing stress concentrations, such as damage from knife-edge contact
  • Improve test success rate by eliminating contact-point slippage
  • Eliminate the cost of consumable parts
  • On larger test frames, locate below the moving member used to apply the test force viewing the test specimen across the test zone

Who is the webinar aimed at?

This session will be useful to CEO's, Research and Development staff, Testing Lab Managers and Technicians within companies interested in or associated with the development and testing of materials, within a broad range of manufacturing industries including aerospace, automotive, medical, packaging, textiles, motorsport, rail, education, civil engineering and oil and gas amongst others.

What are the webinar requirements?

The talk will be pitched at a relatively introductory level, so no prior knowledge about is required.

How does it work?

This one-hour webinar will be broadcast via Zoom and delegate questions can be posed through the Q&A function. A video of the webinar will be recorded for all delegates including any material referenced. The webinar is scheduled for Monday 25 July at 15:00 (BST) on the IOM3 Zoom channel. All registered delegates will receive a link and instructions of how to join the webinar in advance. You will need an internet connection to take part in the webinar.

What will I learn from attending this webinar?

Attendees of the webinar will leave having learnt about what is next for sensors. One of those critical sensors in a materials testing system is the one that measures movement, and is used to determine strain, be it longitudinal or transverse, and in the feedback loop enabling strain rate control. These sensor technologies have been much the same for 50 years, that is now going to change. Vector is an evolutionary marker in time, and it is coming later this year.

Sensors are critical to the performance and effectiveness of a system yet often eclipsed by the system itself.

Sensors and their capability are critical, measuring and monitoring parameters such as Force, Movement, Temperature and Flow etc. It is in this area of sensors where Tinius Olsen is currently focusing, particularly in pursuit of improving the process of performing tests, making the process far more efficient, effective and ever more reliable by automating, digitising and minimising user intervention.
