What to expect
This seminar will explore energy-efficient approaches to composite manufacturing, building on the work recognised by the IOM3 Composite Award 2024 on out-of-oven manufacturing of natural fibre composites.
The talk will discuss the use of electrically conductive materials to enable direct heating, reduce manufacturing energy demand and integrate additional functionalities such as sensing, as well as the use of recycled carbon fibres as functional materials for energy-efficient processing and other value-added applications.

Dr Han Zhang, FIMMM
Reader in Multifunctional Polymers and Composites, WMG, University of Warwick
- Dr Han Zhang is a Reader in Multifunctional Polymers and Composites at WMG, University of Warwick. His research focuses on sustainable and multifunctional composites, including energy-efficient manufacturing, conductive polymer composites, structural health monitoring and repair.
- He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and received several awards, including the Beilby Medal and Prize 2026, IOM3 Composite Award 2024, and IOM3 Silver Medal 2022. He is a Fellow of IOM3, Chartered Engineer and Chartered Scientist, and currently serves as Deputy Chair and Secretary of the IOM3 Composites Group and an Associate Editor of Composites Part A.
