What to expect

Contact Resistance Heating of Unidirectional Carbon Fibre Tows in a Powder-Epoxy Towpregging Line investigates how electrical contact resistance between carbon-fibre tows and roller electrodes affects Joule heating during towpreg manufacture.

The study experimentally measured contact resistance under different production speeds, tensions, and temperatures, and used thermal imaging alongside a finite-element model to predict tow temperature distributions.

Results showed that contact resistance significantly influences heating behaviour and must be considered to accurately control and optimise the towpregging process.
