Abstracts:Stephen Fitzpatrick - Retaining Maximum Value in Titanium Products (and other metallic products) Using Additive ManufacturingTitanium and other critical metals are vital to high-integrity sectors, but their energy-intensive production and limited reuse lead to early value loss. This talk explores how Additive Manufacturing (AM), particularly Directed Energy Deposition (DED), is enabling new strategies to retain product value through precision repair, remanufacture, and life extension, instead of recycling. Focusing on applied research and industrial use cases, the session will show how AM is used to recover worn or obsolete components, restore full functionality, and develop new repair and overhaul approaches. By keeping products in use and preserving the embedded material and functional value, AM offers a practical route to more circular, efficient, and resilient metallic systems. |
