In collaboration with EMP, we're launching a new course focused on structured problem solving.

Structured Problem Solving provides a practical and systematic approach to identifying, analysing and resolving problems within organisations. This introductory course is designed to give delegates an appreciation of the fundamental principles of structured problem solving and the core elements required to achieve sustainable improvement results.

During the course, delegates will explore the importance of defining a problem clearly before using data and analysis techniques to identify the real issues behind the presented symptoms. Through a combination of tutor-led discussion and practical activities, learners will gain an understanding of how structured approaches can support operational performance, continuous improvement and team-based problem solving.

This course provides an excellent foundation for those wishing to further explore Root Cause Analysis methodologies and continuous improvement techniques.

Tailoring of the course is available for in-company delivery to align with existing internal problem-solving methodologies and organisational improvement initiatives.

Led by an experienced tutor, the course introduces practical techniques for:

  • How structured problem solving supports day-to-day operations and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Techniques to accurately identify and define problems
  • Methods for distinguishing between issues and symptoms
  • Practical application of basic problem-solving tools and techniques, including data gathering and root cause analysis tools
  • Approaches to building confidence in team-based problem-solving activities
  • Techniques for controlling, monitoring and sustaining improvements made within the organisation

This course is suitable for materials cycle professionals at all levels who wish to understand the fundamentals of Structured Problem Solving.

It is ideal for individuals who have been recruited to support improvement initiatives within their organisation, whether at team, departmental or functional level. The course is also valuable for those involved in operations, engineering, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, service delivery or continuous improvement activities.
