The next virtual course will take place on 25 February
In collaboration with EMP, we're launching a new course, TRIZ - from problems to breakthrough solution.
Innovation is often seen as unpredictable and driven by inspiration, trial and error, or chance breakthroughs. However, the most successful organisations consistently innovate using structured approaches that reduce uncertainty and accelerate solution finding.
This practical one-day course introduces a proven methodology for tackling complex engineering, operational, technical, and business challenges in a systematic and repeatable way. Drawing on principles developed through the analysis of millions of patents and real-world case studies, the course provides delegates with tools to define problems more clearly, uncover hidden contradictions, and generate high-quality solutions with greater confidence.
Designed to move beyond incremental improvement, the course helps participants identify breakthrough opportunities, strengthen decision-making, and reduce the risks associated with innovation and change.
Led by an experienced tutor, the course introduces practical techniques for:
- Defining better problems by bringing clarity to complex, ambiguous, or ill-defined situations
- Generating high-quality solutions in a reliable and repeatable way
- Applying the right tools systematically to drive innovative thinking and problem-solving
- Solving difficult challenges by uncovering and resolving contradictions
- Anticipating future problems and opportunities using TRIZ trends of evolution
- Building confidence in your ability to develop innovative and effective solutions
This course is suitable for material cycle professionals at all levels who want to develop a more structured approach to innovation and complex problem solving. It is particularly relevant for:
- Design and development engineers working on complex materials, components, or processing systems
- Research and development teams seeking systematic approaches to innovation
- Manufacturing, processing, and operations engineers focused on improving efficiency, reliability, and yield
- Systems, asset, and integration engineers managing interconnected technical environments
- Technical leaders, engineering managers, and project leads responsible for innovation and continuous improvement initiatives
