Crash helmets for eggs

Crash helmets for eggs is a design and build challenge based around the concept of protecting an ordinary hens egg from the force of an impact when dropped.  Learners are encouraged to investigate the materials used in bicycle or other crash helmets and try and identify why these materials are used before designing and building their own crash suit.  The pupils are split into groups of two or three and they work through the project following the same steps as real scientists and engineers,i.e. research, design, build, test, evaluate.
