Welsh Government consults on a public energy company
The proposed company will not replace existing energy suppliers or directly set household electricity prices.
The aim would be to help Wales reduce energy costs over time by developing and owning renewable energy assets, supporting local and community ownership, and investing in smart local energy systems.
The government also aims to help more organisations use locally generated energy, attracting investment into Welsh energy infrastructure and reinvesting value for public benefit.
Members of the public can respond to the consultation. The deadline is 30 November 2026.
