The Global Mineral Professionals Alliance welcomes West African member

The Global Mineral Professionals Alliance (GMPA) welcomes its newest member organisation, the West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (WAIMM).

 

IOM3 is a member of GMPA along with the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, Instituto de Ingenieros de Minas de Chile, Instituto de Ingenieros de Minas del Peru, the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration and now WAIMM.

The GMPA is a collaboration between the peak member organisations for minerals professionals around the world, providing leadership, promoting technical and professional excellence, upholding standards and providing opportunities for knowledge sharing.

IOM3 CEO Dr Colin Church FIMMM commented, ‘IOM3 is delighted to welcome WAIMM to the GMPA family. Working together with like-minded professional bodies across the world is part of the approach we are taking to support professionals in materials, minerals, & mining to be champions of the transition to a low-carbon, resilient and resource-efficient society.’

WAIMM looks forward to their involvement. Lawrence Omari-Mensah, WAIMM Executive Secretary, said, ‘WAIMM is committed to demonstrating leadership in professional excellence and career advancement through innovative networking.’

WAIMM was established in 2012 to strengthen professionalism as a wider part of sustainability of the resources industry within the west African subregion and beyond. WAIMM key areas of focus are the enhancement of professional standards, providing exceptional leadership in science and high-quality professional input into industry and society.
