Laura has over 20 years’ experience in the Steel Industry including senior leadership roles within Technical, Supply Chain and Manufacturing functions. Laura has represented the industry at many international events and has an excellent understanding of the challenges facing manufacturing and the steel industry supply chain in particular. She is an advisor to the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council where she helps shape the direction of research funding.
Laura is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Mining and Minerals, and Chair of the Iron and Steel Society, a Chartered Engineer and holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering and an Engineering Doctorate in Steel Technology from Swansea University.
Laura is a keen STEM ambassador and is passionate about engaging youngsters, particularly young women, in STEM subjects.

Industrial Security Services Business Manager,Siemens PSSO GB&I

Paul began his engineering career in the Automotive Industry as a Project Manager following an Electrical Technical Apprenticeship with the Rover Group. He then moved to an OEM for process equipment primarily focused on the metals industry working as an Project Engineering interface with all overseas projects. This led to numerous project management projects around the world delivering full turnkey solutions.
After working overseas for some years I returned to the UK and worked in developing industrial control solutions from the enterprise layer to the shop floor. This utilized new industrial control technologies such as Industrial communication networks and developing leading edge control concepts within the ICS environment.
Paul joined Siemens in 1997 as a Network Applications Engineer before becoming a Product Manager for industrial control systems and products. Paul then became the Business Unit manager for Data Services. This was a team within the Siemens organization responsible for the IIOT (Industrial Internet of Things) and Ind 4.0 via the Cloud based PaaS Mindsphere. This new business unit provides the cloud connection platform for Siemens products and services.
Paul also has engineering qualifications in Safety and is a certified TUV Safety Professional leading the engineering on safety systems and products for the Digital factory and Process drives Division. Paul has further experience and qualifications in Cyber Security and is now the ISS Business Manager (Industrial Security Services) and Product Solution and Security Officer for the same DI division. Paul also represents Siemens PLC for security within the UK’s NCSC ICS Working Group and provides an interface to other UK Government departments as when required.

Research Student,Department of Computer Science, Swansea University

Qiushi Cao is a Research Assistant at the Department of Computer Science, Swansea University. Previously, he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Artificial Intelligence at INSA Rouen Normandie/Normandy University, France.
His research focuses on knowledge graph and machine learning technologies for Industry 4.0. He also has experience in developing real-world applications for Industry 4.0 and biomedical science, such as knowledge-based predictive maintenance systems and medical decision support systems.
