Prevented Ocean Plastic Africa has launched at COP27 in Cairo, Egypt, with the mission to prevent 5,000 tonnes of plastic from entering the ocean in Swahili and North African coastal regions.

The global programme will build recycling infrastructure to collect plastic from places with minimal recycling in North Africa.

The initiative is a commercial partnership with the Canadian-headquartered, recycled PET solutions company Bantam Materials, and recycled PET manufacturer in Egypt, BariQ, to create fully traceable, certified recycled plastic.
