Ateeq ur Rehman

Doctoral Student, Materials and Processes, University of Edinburgh

Ateeq ur Rehman is a PhD researcher in the School of Engineering, Institute of Materials and processes, The University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on biomimetic design with an aim to developing multifaceted engineering materials of the future. Currently he is working on exploration on extra ordinary structures in nature to develop bioinspired ripstop textiles. Prior to this he was doing research in textiles and clothing.

Chris Holland

Senior Lecturer in Natural Materials, University of Sheffield

Chris joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Sheffield in 2013 as head of the Natural Materials Group, holding an EPSRC Early Career Fellowship. After this he then went onto co-ordinating FLIPT, a large European consortia as part of a H2020 FET Open project and has been promoted to a Senior Lecturer.

Outside of the lab he is an associate editor for ACS Biomaterials Science and Engineering and also the Chair of the Natural Materials Association.

Previously he was at Oxford where he undertook his BA in Biological Sciences, MSc in Integrative Biosciences, D. Phil and later a Fellowship By Examination (a.k.a JRF) whilst working in the Oxford Silk Group. 

Areas of interest: "Biomimetics, silk processing and protein materials".

Nilmini Dissanayake

Higher Research Scientist, National Physical Laboratory

Areas of interest: Natural fibre reinforced polymer composites, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Durability and sustainability of NFRP composites, Carbon fibre recycling

Lauren Eggleton

Doctoral Student, University of Sheffield

Lauren Eggleton is a PhD researcher in the Materials Science and Engineering Department at The University of Sheffield. Her background is in biomaterials and oral healthcare. Her current research focuses on understanding and bridging the gap between structure and function in snail and slug mucus.

 

Parvez Alam

Senior Lecturer in Materials Modelling and Design, University of Edinburgh

Parvez currently holds a Senior Lectureship in Materials Modelling and Design at the University of Edinburgh.  Areas of interest: "structure, function and properties".
