McLaren invests £500mln in UK automotive sector
The British car manufacturer plans to expand its R&D and production site in South Yorkshire.
McLaren’s investment will also go towards opening a new vehicle production facility in the UK, as well as supporting plans to reindustrialise, unlock growth, and create 1,000 new high-quality jobs by 2032.
This will ensure McLaren continues to design, engineer and manufacture in the UK, and builds on £4bln of government investment into the wider automotive sector by 2035.
The company’s commitment to keeping all current and new models in the UK will reportedly create export opportunities in markets worldwide and boost local firms throughout its supply chain.
This includes plans to manufacture future engines in-house for the first time and expand its product portfolio with a performance SUV model.
