Materials from end-of-life tyres create wall paints

BASF and French paint manufacturer Cromology are collaborating on the 'circular coating' product.

They are using chemically recycled feedstocks from end-of-life tyres.

A styrene‑acrylate binder produced from the feedstocks forms the basis for the long‑established Tollens interior wall paint.

BASF converts end-of-life tyres into a secondary feedstock, pyrolysis oil. For a 10L container of the new Tollens paint, the amount of pyrolysis oil used corresponds to approximately two end-of-life tyres.
