IOM3 partners with new journal publisher

The Institute is pleased to announce Sage Publications Ltd as its new journal publishing partner.

We are pleased to announce that Sage has become the new journal publishing partner of IOM3. The partnership, which dates from May 2023, replaces Taylor & Francis (T&F) as the official publishing partner from January 2024 and grants Sage the exclusive right and license to produce, print, digitise, publish, market, and sell the Journals of the Institute.

Dr Colin Church FIMMM, CEO of IOM3, said, 'This move underpins plans to strengthen the IOM3 offering and provide increased support to our editors and authors. The independent nature of Sage, its focus on supporting an equitable academic future and furthering disciplines that drive social change, and its outlook on knowledge sharing, make it an excellent publishing partner for IOM3'. IOM3 thanks T&F for its support over the last few years, and its assistance in developing the journals during that time.

Miranda Nunhofer, Vice President of Research at Sage, said, 'We are delighted to become the publishing partner of IOM3 and to build upon our shared commitment to promoting research for a more sustainable society. The IOM3 journal program produces ground-breaking research championing the transition to a sustainable future which perfectly complements Sage’s growing high-quality STM portfolio and our mission to build bridges to knowledge'.

The titles transferring to Sage are:

Sage, IOM3, and T&F are fully committed to ensuring a smooth transfer in line with the NISO Transfer Code of Practice. Authors wishing to submit articles to these journals should continue to do so as normal, using the T&F platform until the end of September 2023. Details on how to access the Sage platform from October onwards will be made available after the summer.

As part of the agreement, IOM3 members will continue to be able to access all our journals for free as part of their membership. The current free access to additional T&F-published journals will be replaced from January 2024 with free access to a comparable set of Sage-published journals.

Institutional and individual subscribers to the IOM3 journals will be contacted by Sage as part of the transfer process to arrange continued access.

The open access journal Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering which is jointly owned by IOM3, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Chinese Heat Treatment Society will continue to be published by T&F and so is not affected by the transfer.

About Sage

Sage is a global academic publisher of books, journals, and library resources with a growing range of technologies to enable discovery, access, and engagement. Believing that research and education are critical in shaping society, 24-year-old Sara Miller McCune founded Sage in 1965. Today, we are controlled by a group of trustees charged with maintaining our independence and mission indefinitely.

Their guaranteed independence means they're free to:

  • Do more – supporting an equitable academic future, furthering disciplines that drive social change, and helping social and behavioral science make an impact.
  • Work together – building lasting relationships, championing diverse perspectives, and co-creating resources to transform teaching and learning.
  • Think long-term – experimenting, taking risks, and investing in new ideas.

Please direct any questions or queries regarding the terms of the new publishing agreement to IOM3 Journal Relationship Manager, Tia Byer ([email protected]).
