IOM3 appoints Vice-President

The Trustees are delighted to announce the election of Dr Graham Ormondroyd FIMMM as a new IOM3 Vice-President. Graham will take up this role from 1 January 2023.

Dr Graham Ormondroyd started life as a forester but quickly moved into the area of wood science, with a PhD from Bangor University, UK. Having spent a year working at Forest Research in New Zealand on industrially focused projects, he settled back at Bangor to undertake research in forest products and the wider area of biomaterials.

As a member of the Institute of Wood Science, Graham became a member of IOM3 during the merger and began to sit on the Wood Technology Society’s (WTS) board from the inaugural meeting. Graham eventually became Chair of the WTS and was the inaugural Vice-Chair of the Natural Materials Association. Following this Graham was recruited as a Strategic Advisor to the Institute.

In his day job Graham continues to lead a biomaterials research group as Reader in Biomaterials at Bangor University and has the role of Co Lead on a new university wide research programme on ‘Sustainable High Value Manufacturing’.

Speaking about taking on the role, Graham said, ‘I am delighted to be elected as a Vice-President of the Institute, having worked all my life in sustainable materials, I am looking forward to driving the sustainability agenda across all facets of IOM3.

As a Strategic Advisor I have welcomed the chance to interact with the Technical Communities outside of my direct area of specialism and I look forward to this continuing as I take up this new role. I look forward to the challenges ahead and being part of the team that will forge the future for the Institute and continue to develop the experience of members’.
