Henry Royce to receive £95mln in funding
The renewed investment from UK Research and Innovation will enable Royce to continue advanced materials research and turn its discoveries into commercial products.
Royce’s work includes developing lighter, more efficient battery technology and using artificial intelligence to design a new alloy that could replace scarce, rare-earth materials used in electrical equipment among other research.
The institute’s battery development facility has already supported Molyon, a spin-out of the University of Cambridge, UK, to create a new class of lithium-sulphur batteries that are lighter, more sustainable and can store twice as much energy as current models.
