AI-powered 3D underground infrastructure mapping
Finnish firm Groundhawk has raised €2mln in seed funding to digitise underground utility mapping.
As Europe and the US prepare to invest over €1trln in grids, fibre, and EV infrastructure, underground assets are still largely documented using post-construction surveys, contributing to costly rework, project inefficiencies, delays, and safety risks.
Groundhawk is working to replace analogue documentation with AI-powered, real-time 3D mapping, enabling contractors to capture accurate underground data in minutes, while trenches are still open. Potentially resulting in up to 50% lower surveying costs, fewer cable strikes, improved quality assurance, and reduced emissions from avoided rework and site revisits.
The funding will be used to enter new markets across Europe, with a specific focus on the UK, Nordics, Germany and Benelux, while advancing its spatial intelligence platform toward predictive quality assurance and planning support.
The platform is already used by major Nordic and European contractors, including Eltel Networks, Voimatel, and Elvera, across fibre and electricity projects.
